sodium heparin

ACTION AND MECHANISM

Anticoagulant. Polysaccharide with a markedly acidic character that acts by facilitating the activity and reaction speed of antithrombin III, obtaining as a result an anticoagulant effect. Anti-edematous and anti-exudative for topical use.

INDICATIONS

[TROMBOPHLEBITIS] [PHLEBITIS]: Treatment of disorders of the superficial venous system, superficial thrombophlebitis and treatment of phlebitis caused by intravenous catheter.

POSOLOGY

- Topical route: 1 application/8-24 h.

RULES FOR CORRECT ADMINISTRATION

Apply 3-10 cm of gel or cream to the affected area, followed by a gentle massage.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

- Hypersensitivity to heparin or any other component.

PRECAUTIONS

- [HEMORRHAGE]. If hemorrhagic phenomena appear, its use should be avoided.

- Do not apply directly on mucous membranes, broken skin or open wounds.

INTERACTIONS

Due to its route of administration and the low absorption of heparin, the appearance of interactions is unlikely (see Heparin for parenteral administration for more information).

PREGNANCY

Safety in animals : no data available.

Safety in humans : The safety of heparin use during pregnancy has not been established. Heparin does not cross the placenta, however its use during pregnancy has been associated with 13%-22% of unfavorable effects including perinatal death and prematurity, a lower incidence than that of coumarin derivatives (31%). The mechanism of heparin adverse effects is indirect and undetermined. Isolated cases of maternal osteoporosis have been reported. Although heparin is the anticoagulant of choice during pregnancy, it is not risk-free and should therefore be used with caution, especially during the last trimester and the immediate postpartum period, due to the risk of maternal hemorrhage.

Effects on fertility : No specific studies in humans have been performed.

LACTATION

Safety in animals: no data available.

Safety in humans: Heparin is not excreted in breast milk due to its high molecular weight, however there have been reports of rapid development of severe osteoporosis (2 to 4 weeks) and vertebral abnormalities in lactating women treated with heparin. precautionary use.
