ACTION AND MECHANISM
- [LAXATIVE]. Osmotic type laxative, which increases the osmotic pressure inside the small intestine, causing the release of water into the intestinal lumen, inducing a rapid bowel movement, usually within four hours.
- [ANTACID]. Sodium bicarbonate and phosphate neutralize excess gastric acidity.
- [COLAGOGO/CHOLERETIC]. Stimulates the release of bile from the gallbladder into the intestine.
INDICATIONS
- Symptomatic and temporary treatment of [CONSTIPATION].
- [GASTRIC HYPERACIDITY].
- Symptomatic and temporary treatment of [DYSPEPSIA] due to excesses of alcoholic beverages or food.
POSOLOGY
DOSAGE:
- Adults, oral: 1-2 teaspoons/8 h, on an empty stomach or before the main meals. Maximum dose: 4 teaspoons/6 h.
RULES FOR CORRECT ADMINISTRATION
The preparation should be dissolved in half a glass of water, and taken during or after the effervescence.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the medication.
- [DIARRHEA].
- [INTESTINAL OBSTRUCTION].
- [APENDICITIS] or [INTESTINAL PERFORATION].
PRECAUTIONS
- [RENAL INSUFFICIENCY].
- [ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION], [HEART FAILURE].
PRECAUTIONS RELATED TO EXCIPIENTS
- This medication contains sodium salts, which should be taken into account in patients with low-sodium diets.
INTERACTIONS
This medication may decrease the absorption of other medications such as iron or lithium salts, tetracyclines, ketoconazole, H2-antihistamines (cimetidine, ranitidine, famotidine), mecamylamine, or methenamine. It is recommended to distance the taking of this medicine with others at least two hours.
PREGNANCY
Its efficacy and safety have not been evaluated, so its use is not recommended.
LACTATION
It is unknown if this medicine is excreted in milk, and the possible effects on the nursing infant. It is recommended to stop breastfeeding while using this medication.
CHILDREN
Its safety and efficacy have not been evaluated, therefore its use is not recommended.
ADVANCED AGE
No specific problems have been described, but in these patients the appearance of renal or cardiac failure is more frequent.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Adverse reactions to this medication are mild and infrequent:
- Digestive. On rare occasions, [VOMITING], [DIARRHEA] and [NAUSEA].
- Metabolic. On very rare occasions, following a chronic overdose, [ALKALOSIS] may occur.
