ACTION AND MECHANISM

Association of local anesthetic (benzocaine) with sympathomimetic
(ephedrine) with vasoconstrictive action.

INDICATIONS

[HEMORRHOIDS]
Symptomatic treatment of pain, itching or stinging associated with hemorrhoids.

POSOLOGY

- Adults, rectal topic: Generally, 3-4 applications per day (morning, night and after each defecation). If the anorectal symptoms (pain, itching and stinging) do not improve within 7 days or if bleeding appears, the clinical situation should be re-evaluated.

- Elderly: Reduce the dose in those over 65 and debilitated patients, due to an increased risk of systemic toxicity.

RULES FOR THE CORRECT ADMINISTRATION

Topical rectal application. Carefully clean the affected area with a mild soap, dry it without rubbing and apply the ointment with clean gauze.
For intrarectal application, screw the cannula to the tube. Before introducing it, lubricate the anal sphincter with the same ointment to facilitate penetration.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

[ALLERGY TO LOCAL ANESTHETICS TYPE ESTER].

PRECAUTIONS

Patients with heart problems, [ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION], thyroid disorders, [DIABETES], with [PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA] or in treatment with antidepressants.
Maintain a normal bowel function through proper diet (fruits, vegetables, adequate fluid intake and regular exercise) It may be useful to take a laxative, a volume enhancer or a stool softener simultaneously, and avoid excessive use of laxatives. It could produce intestinal laziness.
In those older than 65 years and weakened patients, due to a greater tendency to systemic toxicity, the dose should be reduced.
Not recommended for use in children due to insufficient data on efficacy and safety

ADVERSE REACTIONS

- Nervous system disorders (very rarely): Hypersensitivity reactions or systemic manifestations ([NERVOUSISM], [ANXIETY], [HEADACHE], [INSOMNIA]) especially in predisposed individuals.
- Cardiac disorders (very rarely): [PALPITATIONS]. Rarely: Topical administration for prolonged periods of time may produce [ISCHEMIC CARDIOPATITIS] due to the vasoconstrictive action of ephedrine
- Other: Rarely: Anaphylactoid reaction (consisting of [CONTACT DERMATITIS]), anal burning sensation and very rarely metaglobinemia characterized by cyanosis.
The prolonged contact of benzocaine with the mucous membranes can produce dehydration of the epithelium and hardening of the mucous membranes.
If the occurrence of adverse reactions is observed, the treatment should be discontinued and
notify pharmacovigilance systems
