ACTION AND MECHANISM
Association of local anesthetic (benzocaine) with sympathomimetic
(ephedrine) with vasoconstrictive action.
INDICATIONS
[HEMORRHOIDS]
Symptomatic treatment of pain, itching or stinging associated with hemorrhoids.
POSOLOGY
- Adults, rectal topic: Generally, 3-4 applications per day (morning, night and after each defecation). If the anorectal symptoms (pain, itching and stinging) do not improve within 7 days or if bleeding appears, the clinical situation should be re-evaluated.
- Elderly: Reduce the dose in those over 65 and debilitated patients, due to an increased risk of systemic toxicity.
RULES FOR THE CORRECT ADMINISTRATION
Topical rectal application. Carefully clean the affected area with a mild soap, dry it without rubbing and apply the ointment with clean gauze.

In those older than 65 years and weakened patients, due to a greater tendency to systemic toxicity, the dose should be reduced.

ADVERSE REACTIONS
- Nervous system disorders (very rarely): Hypersensitivity reactions or systemic manifestations ([NERVOUSISM], [ANXIETY], [HEADACHE], [INSOMNIA]) especially in predisposed individuals.
- Cardiac disorders (very rarely): [PALPITATIONS]. Rarely: Topical administration for prolonged periods of time may produce [ISCHEMIC CARDIOPATITIS] due to the vasoconstrictive action of ephedrine
- Other: Rarely: Anaphylactoid reaction (consisting of [CONTACT DERMATITIS]), anal burning sensation and very rarely metaglobinemia characterized by cyanosis.
