Centella asiatica extract
ACTION AND MECHANISM
- Healing. The active extracts of Centella asiatica contain triterpenic acids, the total triterpenic fraction contains mainly asiatic, madecassic, asiaticoside (40%) and madecassoside. The active agent is thought to be asiatic acid, with asiaticoside being converted to asiatic.
The extract of Centella asiatica presents in-vitro a slight antimicrobial effect.
It is thought that asiaticosic acid in wound healing, its capacity is due to promoting keratinization, stimulating the epidermis and modulating the production of collagen and mucopolysaccharides in connective tissue (stimulating collagen production in normal healing and inhibiting it in hypertrophic/keloid scar).
Centella asiatica extract is believed to act as a wound healing agent, interfering with the biosynthesis of hyaluronic acid used by mycobacteria.
INDICATIONS
- Healing of [WOUNDS], [CUTANEOUS ULCERA], sores, bedsores and other skin lesions.
- [BURNS].
- Adjuvant in the healing of surgical wounds and in the attachment of skin grafts, especially in cases in which good aeration and prompt drying of the process to be treated are of interest.
POSOLOGY
1-3 applications a day.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Hypersensitivity to any of the components.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Contact dermatitis due to sensitization to neomycin.
